 What is an IBCLC?

An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. In order to obtain this designation, the candidate must have thousands of supervised practice hours assisting families with breastfeeding, and hundreds of education hours specific to breastfeeding.  Once a candidate has fulfilled both the practice and educational requirements, they can complete the exam. If they are successful, they become internationally certified. The IBCLC designation requires ongoing learning and recertification every 5 years.

Why invest in a Lactation Consultant visit?

Most new mothers plan to breastfeed; when difficulties arise in those early days/weeks, it can be very stressful. Without breastfeeding support it can make reaching your breastfeeding goals a challenge and can lead to more formula use.  Formula feeding for your baby’s first year will cost between $2,000 to $5,000, and depending on type of formula.  Investing in a visit from a Lactation Consultation can save you money, while giving your baby an optimal start in life by supporting your breastfeeding goals. Did you know some extended benefits cover some or all of the cost of an in-home visit?  Upon request a digital receipt will be provided for you to submit to your insurance.
